What is a filling?
A dental filling is used when a tooth has been damaged by minor to moderate decay or another form of damage. The filling replaces the missing tooth structure once all decay has been removed. There are two main types of dental fillings available:
- Composite fillings – Also called tooth-colored or white fillings, composite fillings are made of composite resin. This is a durable material that can be matched to your original tooth color to blend in with your smile. The composite resin also forms a strong bond with the tooth to provide a lasting restoration.
- Amalgam fillings – Sometimes referred to as silver fillings, amalgam fillings are made of a mixture of metals, including mercury, tin, silver, and copper. Amalgam fillings are silver in color and are very durable.
Our dentists will help you choose which type of dental filling in Houston, Texas, is best matched to your personal needs and preferences.
